How to Remove Negative Thoughts from the Mind Permanently

Introduction:

Negative thoughts are one of the most common thoughts that come into our minds, and this happens to all of us. Your thoughts must have been negative about something or someone at some time. The problem is not the negative thoughts, it is our ‘Negative Belief System’ that causes issues. You have to understand that there is no emotion attached to any thought, but rather to our belief system. Now the question arises, what does our ‘Belief System’ depend on? Well, It depends on how much emotion we have invested or worked out on certain thoughts. Let’s understand the ‘Negative Thoughts Process’ in this blog and learn how to permanently remove them from the mind.

What Science Says on Negative Thoughts:

As per the research by Psychologists from Queen’s University, Ontario, Kanada that, the average human being has 6,200 thoughts per day. Another study says that out of this 80% of thoughts are negative and 95% are repetitive.

So, As per science negative thoughts are very much common for our mind. Science Advances studies also say that suppressing unwanted negative thoughts improves our mental health.

Difference Between Negative Thought and Negative Belief:

Let’s say you have a negative thought in your mind that “I will hurt someone close to me.” Now, it is important to note that you don’t have to worry about this if it’s just a simple negative thought. But if they are connected to your “Belief System,” then you should be concerned.

You have connected this negative thought to your belief system. Now you might ask how you did it.

3 stages in which Negative thoughts become our beliefs:

1st stage: Suppression

Whenever we think negative thoughts, we either suppress them or try to understand ourselves that “No, I wouldn’t do that”. However, repeatedly repressing these unrealistic thoughts converts them into “Real Negative Thoughts”.

2nd stage: Ignore

Then you start ignoring that negative thought. You keep repeating to yourself, “Don’t think about that,” and instead focus on your work. You keep yourself busy with other tasks so you don’t have to think about them.

Now, here’s something you need to understand, you ignore the very thing that is real. This is stage 2, where you convert unrealistic thoughts into real events.

3rd stage: Guilt Feeling

In stage 3, you start reacting negatively to that thought. Now, you start feeling guilty. You start blaming yourself. Then You ask yourself why you had such thoughts about yourself. You start calling yourself a sinful or evil person.

And this thought gradually becomes so strong that you start thinking, “How could I think like that? How could such a negative thought come into my mind?” This is the stage of ‘Guilt Feeling’ where you have turned these negative thoughts into a real situation.

Example: Let’s say you are in Boston and you don’t want to go to New York. But you have taken the same road that goes straight to New York. So, if you keep going straight on that road, obviously you will reach New York.

In other words, if you are using the same methods that convert ‘Unreal Negative Thoughts’ into ‘Real Negative Beliefs’, it means that even though you don’t want to, you start considering those imaginary negative thoughts or feelings as ‘real negative emotions’.

How to Remove Negative Thoughts from the Mind Permanently

Let’s discuss how to permanently remove negative thoughts from your mind.

The first thing, you need to understand is that you shouldn’t use the path that turns your simple negative thoughts into real negative emotions.

In other words, if you are in Boston, and you don’t want to go to New York, then you shouldn’t drive on the directly leading roads I 90 E or I 95 N.

You don’t have to do these 3 things:

      1. Don’t suppress your negative thoughts.
      2. Don’t force yourself to ignore them.
      3. Don’t feel guilty about them.

If you follow these 3 steps, you will never see such a situation as a complex issue in front of you and it will be resolved at the initial stage.

It is all in your mind.

Remember that it is normal to have thoughts.

Everyone has some kind of thought in their mind.

How you handle those thoughts is entirely up to you.

If you react negatively to these simple thoughts or try to suppress them or forcefully ignore them, then these simple ‘Negative Thoughts’ will become stronger. And they will continue to bother you.

All you have to do is be comfortable with these negative thoughts, don’t give them any importance in any way, and build a Strong Mindset.

Let’s look at another example:

Let’s say you have a fear of dogs.

In this case, can you remove all the dogs from this world? No, you can’t, right?

So, in this situation, you will need to learn to be at ease with dogs.

If your mind is constantly thinking that the dog is going to bite you, the dog will surely bite. It means that your subconscious mind is full of fear that if you take this path, the dog is gonna bite you. You’re not thinking about anything else; you’re just thinking about the dog biting you. Fear has taken over your mind.

What should you do in such a situation? Can you get all the dogs off the street? It is practically not possible.

So, what should you do?

The only thing you can do is learn to be comfortable with dogs.

So, how do you get good with dogs?

If you want to be comfortable with dogs, all you need to do is have some exposure to them. You’ll need to approach them in a calm, non-aggressive manner.

As time goes on, you’ll start to feel more and more confident around dogs. It is said that, change your mind to change your life.

Next Example: COVID 19

A couple of years ago, we were terrified of COVID. We wanted to get rid of the disease in any way possible. But now, the situation has changed and the fear of COVID is almost gone.

So, have we eliminated the COVID virus?

No, the COVID-19 virus is still among us.

We have just developed an immunity to it. Our immunity has become so strong that we are now comfortable with the Corona virus. We don’t have any problem with this virus anymore. Whether this virus is around us or not, it doesn’t make any difference to us.

Think about how scared people were two years ago. We thought we were going to die. We thought it was going to be the end of the world.

Bottom Line:

No matter how big the fear or how much negativity exists in the world, it will eventually pass. Life is all about positivity. Any kind of negativity, depression, obsession, phobia, or panic in the world cannot be a real problem like the COVID-19 pandemic.

Now that we have developed immunity against COVID-19 and defeated the pandemic, what power do these negative thoughts hold? These negative thoughts are only imaginary fears in your mind.
